Do You Have GAPS in Your Walls?

In addition to checking levels of loft insulation, Carillion surveyors are checking to see if cavity walls have been filled.  Where there is cavity space available, a series of holes are drilled in the outside of the wall and insulation material is injected into the cavity between the inner and outer walls.  The insulation material (poly carbon beads) provide a fabric which is a poor conductor of heat and will stop heating escaping from the houses through the walls.

The original purpose of cavity walls was to prevent the spread of dampness to internal walls, so it is very important that the material chosen to fill the cavity is moisture repellent and the cavity is checked prior to installation.

Cavity wall insulation should reduce the U-value of the wall on average from 1.5 to 0.45.  It will make a home feel more comfortable and can also substantially reduce fuel bills.  cavity wall insulation probably provides the best value for money of all the medium-cost insulation measures.
