Energise! in Moray Schools – support needed

REAP is seeking support from Moray Schools for an exciting new project to reduce carbon emissions – and energy costs – in schools, community buildings and homes in Moray. A bid to gain funding from the Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund by REAP is partly dependent on letters and e-mails of support showing that schools in Moray are interested in working with REAP. Schools taking part will be able to access workshops, fully funded CPD training for a Lead Teacher, practical support from experienced energy officers, classroom materials, participation in summer schools, connections with the energy industry, practical strategies to manage energy use more effectively in school and at home, and many more benefits. See the Energise flyer Energise Flyer . REAP would need any letters of support by January 20th 2012. We will find out if our project is successful by February 2012.

A fuller explanation of REAP’s proposal can be found at Energise!

Any letters of support can be e-mailed to energise@reapscotland.org.uk or contact REAP for more information on info@reapscotland.org.uk.

See below to find what people are saying about REAP’s work in schools.

“We are also, as a school at the early stages at looking where REAP can work with S1 pupils as well as engaging with older pupils, with the possibility of looking at our actual school building.

The help and advice has been excellent so far and I hope that it may continue and develop into something that is really worthwhile for all concerned as well as our environment.”

 Ian Barker, Speyside High School

“This type of practical activity can really help children to think about energy use in school and home. Most children learn about fossil fuels and how they contribute to global warming, but few are given the responsibility of reducing their energy use. (REAP’s) Energy Busters has been an opportunity for pupils to take the lead in rising to the challenge we all face. In a short time they have managed to show that reductions can be achieved and their enthusiasm is to be commended.”

Moray Council’s Energy Officer, William Anderson

Thank you again for your own enthusiasm and supportive approach with the pupils and for your well organised and resourced input. I hope you will be able to deliver this programme to many more schools and allow pupils to feel empowered as my pupils have done and experience the value and worth of their actions. They are our future after all!”

 Fiona Milne, Lhanbryde Primary School
