Energy Action Moray
Set against a background of rising energy prices and pressing national targets on carbon emissions, REAP are developing three interlinked approaches to home insulation and collective action on renewable energy technology to reduce dependence on expensive fossil fuels. Through our community based role we will connect local people with relevant support agencies and energy companies providing practical solutions to personal energy issues.
These interventions address clearly expressed and particular needs in the Moray area to:
- Reduce dependency on expensive fossil fuels
- Increase the use of cost effective renewable energy
- Reduce energy consumption and cost – particularly to those in fuel poverty
- Provide alternative sources of heat to those who cannot access mainsheating systems.
The net effect of these interventions will reduce household bills and carbon emissions.
The Benefits
- The environmental benefits of these interventions will be the clearly identifiable reduction in carbon emissions.
- The social benefits will be in providing an effective link between thepublic – particularly the disadvantaged and socially isolated – and those agencies who can provide practical support and help with their energy needs. This also has a clear health benefit to those living in cold and damp houses.
- The economic benefits will be in reducing energy costs to many whoare either in fuel poverty and liable to become so as energy prices continue to rise.
Our launch for this project was on Saturday 28 May 2011 in Elgin Town Hall. Click here for info.
